Title Holding on
"How could that happen?" Dustin turned towards Chris, who was sitting next to him. "I mean, they used to be so... and now? He looks like shit...!"
The last sentence was referring to Mark, who had just come home from his meeting with the lawyers and had gone straight to his room. He really did look tired, lost and pale and Chris hated to see his friend like that. He didn't even want to think how Eduardo must have felt right now...
"Do we have to choose sides? I don't want to choose sides..." Dustin added, looking miserable, and Chris didn't even try to resist the need to hug him.
"I don't think so..." he whispered close to Dustin's ear, and stroked his back, soothingly.
Besides they kind of did, when they stayed on Facebook. Which didn't mean they were okay with the situation, because they weren't. But Facebook was something special and they wanted to be part of it...
"I miss the old Mark. The one he was when Wardo was around..." Dustin practically clung to him, his words slightly muffled against Chris' shoulder. "He seemed happier back then... You know... in his own weird Mark-ish way..."
Chris agreed with a sigh, slightly surprised that Dustin had noticed it at all. Yet, he knew exactly what Dustin was talking about. Eduardo had always listened to everything Mark had said, as if he wanted to memorize every of Mark's words. He'd believed in Mark, supported him and his vision and idea of Facebook... He'd reminded Mark to eat, sometimes, that he needed a break, that there is a world besides their dorm...
Unfortunately it was the same Eduardo who had frozen Facebook's account, risking the chance that the site went offline and ruin everything they'd been working on...
“Let's hope that they'll be friends again, one day...” Chris said quietly, his fingers brushing Dustin's neck gently. “Maybe they just need some time...”
“Maybe...” Dustin nodded, still hugging him tight, and they stayed like that for a moment longer, as if making sure they were still there for each other, while everything else was falling apart around them.
