Title: Five lies - I hate you
"Mike...“ He woke up suddenly, because someone was gently shaking his shoulder. "Wake up, Michael...“
He sat up in the armchair and rubbed his stiff neck a little.
"You fell asleep while you were reading. Again,“ Lincoln sounded high. Or drunk. Or both. "Go to bed“
"I read while I was waiting for you!“ Michael yawned. "Did you just come home?“ That question was actually a statement, because Lincoln was still wearing his leather jacket.
Michael got to his feet and looked at the watch. "It's almost half past four in the morning, Lincoln! Why can't you come home at a normal time for once?“
He had fought the images in his mind all night. The images of his older brother lying in a dark alley, maybe beaten up or shot, because he messed about with the wrong people again and was not able to avoid fights and arguments. Or that Lincoln was arrested while trying to steal a car...
The fact that Lincoln did all that to pay the rent for their tiny flat or to buy food, or to pay for Michael's clothes and school didn't make things easier. Michael hated it.
Not for the first time did he wish that their mother was still alive. In that case their life would certainly be entirely different. But she was not. Lincoln was everything Michael had.
"Sorry, I was busy, and then there was this party...“ Lincoln dropped his jacket on the armchair where Michael had been sitting before. "Don't lecture me now, but go to bed. You have school tomorrow...“ Lincoln lay down on the sofa. "I brought you breakfast...“ he added, half asleep.
Michael put a blanket over his older brother. "I hate you" he sighed, before he turned off the light and went to his own bed.
