And my wasted heart will love you...
Dec. 25th, 2012 07:29 pmAs you can see I watched Love... actually again and this quote hits so close to home! Also, you just can't go wrong with a film where Martin Freeman is a porn body double and yet manages to be as adorable as nothing else!
I don't like Christmas at all, for many reasons, but this year everything is more bearable, kind of likeable even... I'm very pleasantly surprised, to be quite honest. And so touched, because so many people thought of me! You know who you are, so thank you for your kindness! *squishes* I hope your Christmas is lovely so far.
In other news, this post is going to be about TV
Generation Kill - I know there are a few people who are loving it... but I watched like three or four episodes and it just didn't do it for me. Though it's certainly slashy enough. But I guess it's... too soon, for me? I mean, there is still no peace in Iraq today and I felt incredibly uncomfortable watching it. How young they guys were, how eager they were about wanting to kill the bad guys. I mean okay, that's probably their cope mechanism, but still. It made me cringe.
I'm okay with watching Band of Brothers or The Pacific but maybe because there's this huge distance between today and the actual war and I know that all countries involved managed to have decent relationships now, so...
This is my opinion and if you want to call me a naive hippie, feel free to do so, because I am one. *lol*
Crazy stupid love - I didn't expect to love it, but I did. Damn you, Ryan Gosling, for being not only handsome but also funny! I didn't even mind Emma Whatshername because they have great chemistry. I never know how to feel about her when I see her...
Oh, and speaking of Ryan G., I bought Lars and the real girl a few weeks ago because I suddenly missed it, pretty much out of nowhere. I still haven't re-watched it, but seeing it in my shelf makes me happy.
The Hobbit! - I watched it like two weeks ago and loved it to pieces! Being back in Middle-Earth felt like visiting old friends, and made me sit there with a hand clasped over my mouth so I won't squee too loudly. Also, Martin Freeman is a perfect Bilbo and Andy is still a perfect Gollum and I even liked Gandalf a little more than in LOTR.
I totally love the dwarves
Btw, tonight is the night where I'm gonna watch The Avengers for the first time ever. My expectations are pretty high, and I blame it on Tumblr... You better be good, Avengers!

Date: 2012-12-25 06:39 pm (UTC)I hope you will like "The Avengers"
although I didn't as much as I hoped for! Have fun with the movie.I liked "The Hobbit" as well. I heard a couple of times that people thought it was a bit boring and too long but I loved it completely. I even drag my brother to it for a second time probably in the next year:)
Martin Freeman was great!
I hadn't expected it but I absolutely love Mr. Armitage. He brings Thorin to life (though no slash couple yet although Thorin/Bilbo would do).

Date: 2012-12-26 02:20 pm (UTC)It was pretty great, but it wasn't the best thing ever. More about it in the next post.
It was slower than LOTR, that's true but never boring. And yes, I need to watch it again, soonish, too!
I wasn't expecting at all to love the dwarves so much! Mr. Armitge does a perfect job!

Date: 2012-12-26 12:51 am (UTC)I am glad to hear you had a good Christmas and I need to hang out with you again soon. I have been a lousy friend and am sorry for that. Maybe I can come visit you again sometime soon?
People have been telling me to watch the Avengers left and right so I will do that soon.

Date: 2012-12-26 08:28 am (UTC)I've noticed a lot of people have been watching Love...Actually lately. It was on TV last week here but I missed it. I actually tried to sit through it for the first time a few months ago, but could only make it halfway through--it's a bit too sugary sweet for me. Martin's plotline was probably one of the few parts I found bearable to watch because it was so adorable. Only he could make a porn double role look fundamentally unerotic! I also loved how it deconstructed film sex scenes generally (as opposed to the media glamourising these scenes by constantly questioning actors about them...as if they're actually opportunities for actors to have really hot sex with each other).
I haven't had a chance to see Crazy Stupid Love, but loved Lars and the Real Girl. Wouldn't mind a rewatch of that film!
Finally got to seeing The Hobbit today with Mum in high frame rate 3D (after finishing a re-read of the book yesterday--just in time), and TOTALLY LOVED it! I didn't end up squeeing as much as I thought I might, but really enjoyed the way that the story gradually rolled along and picked up pace (getting a decent sense of what Bilbo is leaving at the beginning makes his choice to remain with the group at the end all the more remarkable imo), and didn't feel bored at any point. It probably helped that visually there was just so much to take in! Plus everyone's perfect. I have no words for that Riddles scene with Andy and Martin, OMG. And I liked how Film!Bilbo is not as whiny as the book!Bilbo seemed to be in that first third of the story--it would've made him really difficult to put up with.
I'm pretty much in love with BAMF!Kili and really loved Bofur and Balin as well...but not quite up for shipping anyone, although I can now understand the fuss over Thor-Bo/Bil-Rin. Not least of all because of the rapport *cough-bromance* you see between Martin and Richard in their various interviews for the film.
I haven't managed to see The Avengers yet either, nor Captain America. I should probably get onto that before Iron Man 3, shouldn't I? :P

Date: 2012-12-26 03:50 pm (UTC)I watched Love Actually last Christmas for the first time ever and yes, it's rather sweet. but in a good way. Also, the minimum of Keira Knightly in it made me happy ;)
Awww, yes! I loved the riddles so much! And that generally everyone was a badass, including young!Bibo! I also love how well Martin and Richard seem to get along!
I've only seen both Iron Man movies before watching the Avengers, and there was a lot of references to all the other Superhero movies, so I didn't get all of them, but was able to follow anyway. ;)

Date: 2012-12-27 11:49 am (UTC)Haha, Keira Knightly was good in Bend It Like Beckham, but not much else since. I last saw her in Cronenberg's film A Dangerous Method...and she was quite full-on in that too :P At least with ensemble films like Love Actually you don't have to put up with any particular character for too long.
I imagine The Avengers would be pretty accessible in not getting too invested in the characters' back stories...but still, given that I've got the opportunity to watch the others beforehand, may as well enjoy it that way :) Has TA made you curious about Thor, Captain America, etc?

How come I didn't notice the M.Freeman cuteness back then?!

How come I didn't notice the M.Freeman cuteness back then?!
I KNOW! This happened to me too, when I watched Hitchiker's guide to the Galaxy (or Shaun of the dead. Or Hot Fuzz) and now I don't know how I could have not notice him.

Date: 2012-12-26 12:34 pm (UTC)soldiersmarines are like. I love it now because I've reached a stage where I look at it mostly from fannish aspects and adore the characters, but it's bleak and it's awful. I mean. It's a realistic portrayal of a modern war. Yeah, I can see how that would make anyone uncomfortable.(In fact, I think it should.)

Date: 2012-12-26 04:41 pm (UTC)Maybe I should re-watch it one day, now that I know what to expect. I definitey like Alex Skarsgard may more in it than I ever did in True Blood.

Date: 2012-12-26 04:52 pm (UTC)Askars is amazing in it, though. I tried watching True Blood for him but found it so awful that I never made it beyond the first episode, sigh.

I still need to watch Generation Kill, The Pacific and Band of Brothers...*sigh* some day...
The Hobbit was one of the best movies Ive seen in a while. I quite enjoy Martin Freeman's and Richard Armitage's faces :)
The Hobbit rekindled my love of LOTR too! I just rewatched all the LOTR movies :)
