She saw them from afar already. Michael was reading a book and Lincoln was doing nothing actually. He was just lying on the deck of the boat, close to Michael, enjoying the evening sun. They looked peaceful.
"Hey guys," she said happily, when she was at a distance at which they could hear her. Lincoln saw her first.
"No." he said simply as if the word had slipped accidentally from his lips.
Now Michael looked up from his book.
"You're alive!“ he exclaimed, relief clearly audible in his voice, but he didn't run towards her, as she had imagined on her way to Panama.
He looked at his older brother by his side instead. She blamed it on the shock.
"Are you sure?" he asked Lincoln, who stayed by his side.
"Of course I am." Lincoln looked intensely into Michael's eyes. "Question is, are *you*?"
"Michael?" She felt uncomfortable and out of place.
"No.“ Michael said finally. He had made this choice a long time ago – there was no way back. "I'm very happy to see you alive, but no..."
"Oh...“ she muttered, because it was not at all how she expected their reunion and suddenly she began to understand...
